I just got Maya today and decided to try it out. I've only spent an hour or so learning the tools and looking at tutorials but I certainly prefer it over 3DS Max so far.
Here's a little preview of what I'm working on, nothing spectacular, but I've been looking at optimising the poly's etc. so there's a little more than it seems. We'll have to see how much elevation we can incorporate without breaking the point-click movement...have to start somewhere though! so going with the uni campus idea for the moment.
Once I've finished these basic outlines I'll look at porting into CryEngine.

22/01/13 Group meeting
Feedback from this week:
Aims for next week:
- storyboards are fine (seems like we know where we're going?)
- May be beneficial to get a 'Metric Handbook' - a architecture guide for stand dimensions of buildings
- Should consider to what point each area of the map should be completed i.e. all modelled vs partially completed but with portfolio pieces completed - possibly one well done area for tutorial?
- Blocking off the edges of the map (which we considered) can be improved with a background/skybox wrap around the horizon of the map, also terrain should extend out of the playable area (no invisible walls)
- each task can be broken down into levels of completion i.e. for modelling boxed -> modelled -> finished(textured, in engine) and a total time scoped out for each task
Aims for next week:
- work on white-box map based on a Google-maps layout of campus
- compile list of assets and tasks to to made/completed in detail
- fill out pivotal tracker and allocate this weeks tasks
NOTES:
- Our pivotal may have expired: will ask Dan if we ever see him
